How do I book transport to a medical appointment?
Please call our coordinator on 0345 388 9063. If the telephone is not answered please leave a message and we will either return the call the same day or on the next working day.
What area do you cover?
We cover the parishes of Tiptoe, Hordle and Everton. However we can take people from outside this area if the relevant group for that area are unable to help but priority has to be given to the people in out three parishes.
Are you part of a larger organisation and who is responsible for ensuring volunteers are able to working with vulnerable people?
We are a self supported community volunteer organisation that was established in 1994. We have a constitution that directs how we operate. We are assisted by the Good Neighbour Support Service, Hampshire who provides information and help and we operate to their Good Practice Guide. All our volunteers are subject to an Enhanced Disclosure and Barring check (DBS) which is a criminal record check. This is renewed every 5 years.
Do you only provide transport for medical appointments?
Due to the number of volunteer drivers available we can only provide transport to take clients to medical appointments and other related health issues. This includes taking clients to visit a relative who is an in-patient in hospital or care home. We also take clients to rehabilitation classes. If you are not sure please call us on 0845 388 9063.
How much will it cost?
We request that clients reimburse the driver at 50 pence per mile. This is calculated from the driver’s home address and return. Depending where your driver resides, the cost will vary slightly for clients. Please see the attached guide at the foot of this page for average costs to local hospitals and Doctors Surgeries.
Can someone come with me?
Yes. It would help if you advise the coordinator at the time of booking transport that this will be the case.
Will you take wheelchairs and walking aids?
Yes. However it is important you let the coordinator know at the time of booking the transport in case a larger vehicle is required.
Will the driver stay with me?
Generally the driver will wait with you but should they need to leave they will make arrangements to meet you. The driver will also accompany you at the consultation if you request it.
I hear that you have a Tea Party each year. How can I get an invite?
We have been able to provide a tea party for a number of years now and it is usually held in September. We are limited to the number of people that can be accommodated in the room so unfortunately we cannot extend the invite to all our clients which total about 160. We try to invite people that have been regular users of our service throughout the year.
When is your groups AGM and can I get transport to it if I wish to attend?
Our AGM is usually held in March and we do offer a transport service to clients wishing to attend. Clients are usually advised by the coordinator or driver approximately a month before the meeting.
Do you offer a friendship service if I feel lonely?
Unfortunately we do not offer a service that will allow volunteers to visit clients in their own home. Milford on Sea has a service and we can refer people to them when required.
I am unable to use a bus so I do not have a bus pass. Can I get any financial assistance with the cost of transport with you?
Hampshire County Council issue travel vouchers for people who are unable to use public transport. We are pleased to be able to take these vouchers as payment for travelling with us. Please see the information on the HCC website
Will I have to pay for car parking?
Drivers are given permits which allow them to park at hospitals without charge. Should your appointment be other than at a hospital on very rare occasions a public car park may have to be used and in those instances the client would be required to pay.
I have a ‘Blue Badge’ for parking dispensations. Is that able to be used?
Whilst you are a passenger in a vehicle driven by one of our drivers your ‘Blue Badge’ may be used subject to any conditions imposed by the parking authority.
Do you provide drivers at weekends and in the evenings?
We have a limited number of drivers who are willing to provide a service at weekends and evenings. However we cannot always know when they will be available. Please call us on 0345 388 9063 with as much notice as possible so we can endeavour to help.
